In today's episode, Scott and I discuss ways that your elimination period, otherwise known as a waiting period, can be waived under the Presumptive Disability Rider.

These are *free on almost any disability plan out there, as it stands today, but this could change over time.*

If your waiting period is waived, something serious has happened. Nonetheless, we want you to know the rules on this which can help you decide which waiting period to buy.

There are two carriers that don't require the situation to be permanent, the issue doesn't have to be irrevocable. Take a listen and let us know if you have any questions for our team.

Hello, in today's Physician Edition episode, we're covering the Presumptive Disability Rider. This is something that's built into all insurance contracts, and

0:14
it waives your waiting period. I hope you enjoy it. Scott and I are going to talk about presumptive disability rider was interesting about that. One is I don't think a lot of people know that your waiting periods can actually be waived if you have... And this is always interesting to list body parts.... But if you have hands or feet sight speech or hearing or a hand on a foot, that will waive your waiting period,

0:40
there is some cognitive impairment involved the contract and carrier and course the state, okay, all these are state variants. But if you do end up in this severe situation, maybe you had an auto accident where you develop some frontal lobe damage, you know, or, you know, God forbid, you end up you know, paralyzed or you've lost your vision, all these things can trigger those benefits. And you don't have that 90-day or 180 -day waiting period.

1:07
There are a few carriers that do not require it to be irrecoverable. So there could be the trigger points, and that did occur hand in the foot, if you have the possibility of recovery, you'll actually still get your waiting period wave. So that is a nice feature to have, and all companies have it, but some offer the irrecoverable type.

1:24
Correct, it's kind of a long shot, but you know, it is better to have something that says that it doesn't have to be permanent in nature. So if you think about, you know, there's a process of or treatment going through where you lose your sight, even if it's for, you know, two weeks, three weeks or something of that nature. And it's not like blind where you can't see anything, but it's a legally blind definition. And so there's some things like that, that you know, as we know, do some really bad illnesses or some treatments for some really bad illnesses. You know, we can lose, you know, herring, we can lose sight we can lose, you know, our mobility issues. There are just some things you have to be mindful of. But once again, if you have any issues, Always talk to your representation always file a claim with the carrier because it does not hurt you to file a claim. It just puts the company on notice to be aware that something might be going on.
